ISLAMABAD: According to the Henley Passport Index 2022, the Pakistani passport has been ranked as the fourth worst passport for international travel for the third year in a row, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 31 destinations around the world.
Pakistan is ranked 108th in the Henley Passport Index, which ranks all of the world's passports according to the number of destinations their holders can visit without a visa.
Since 2006, the Henley & Partners firm's "Henley Passport Index" has been tracking the world's best travel-friendly passports.
According to the report, the increased travel hurdles created during the Covid-19 pandemic have resulted in the biggest worldwide mobility gap in the index's 16-year history.
Leaving aside actual current travel access, holders of the passports at the top of the index's ranking — Japan and Singapore — can theoretically travel visa-free to 192 destinations.
That's 166 more than Afghan nationals, who are at the bottom of the 199-passport index and may only travel to 26 countries without a visa in advance.
As we enter the first quarter of 2022, the top ten rankings have remained virtually unchanged.
South Korea is tied for second place (with a score of 190) with Germany, and Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Spain are also tied for third place (with a score of 190). (with a score of 189).
As is customary, EU countries dominate the top of the list, with France, the Netherlands, and Sweden jumping one rank to fourth place, joining Austria and Denmark (with a score of 188).
Ireland and Portugal are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively (with a score of 187).
The top two countries, the United States and the United Kingdom, have regained some ground since 2014.
