Every year second Thursday of March is being celebrated as World Kidney Day.

Gradual loss of kidney functions over a period of months or years, is known as Chronic Kidney disease. The stages of Chronic kidney disease varies from different stages to End Stage Renal Disease or Chronic Renal Failure requiring either Dialysis or transplant. Widespread ignorance, sharp increase in the incidence and very high cost of treatment on long term basis has led to create awareness as to how prevent and retain kidney functions at their best.

Unhygienic, unhealthy water, food, drinks, poor literacy, lack of education, low income, unemployment, poor and substandard health care, abuse of pain killer/drugs and dehydration all contribute to chronic kidney disease. The patient may have no symptoms at all or may present with a complication like sudden uncontrolled high Blood Pressure, anemia, shortness of breath, persistent vomiting etc. The patients of uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, obese, over 50years of age and those having family history are at high risk of developing Kidney disease. Following simple measures help to prevent Chronic Kidney Disease;

CARE OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE:

  • Keep yourself well hydrated with clean drinking water.
  • Avoid colored and substandard drinks.
  • Always eat healthy diet ,rich in proteins(white meat),fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Avoid eating too much oily, spicy food from outside.
  • Maintain healthy weight and loose, if obese.
  • Don’t smoke and abstain from drug abuse.
  • Don’t use over the counter drugs or rapid cure remedies.
  • Must know your Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Weight.
  • Keep an eye on Kidney functions especially those on high risk.
  • Immediately consult your doctor for infections and use medicines only under supervision of a qualified registered doctor.
